Dhoni is Indian cricketer who is being compared
to Adam GilChrist for his wicket-keeping position
and his swashbuckling batting prowes. He belongs
to Jharkhand state which became a new state, created
out of Bihar few years ago.
Though Dhoni made his first-class debut in the 1999-2000
season, it was only in 2004 that he became a serious
contender for national selection with some stirring
performances when the occasion demanded - a rapid
hundred which helped East Zone clinch the Deodhar
Trophy and an audacious 60 in the Duleep Trophy
final. But it was with his two centuries against
Pakistan A, in the triangular tournament in Kenya,
that he established himself as a clinical destroyer
of bowling attacks.
n just his fifth one-dayer, against Pakistan at
Vishakapatnam, Dhoni cracked a dazzling 148 - and
followed that up with a mammoth 183 runs not out
at Jaipur against Sri Lanka in November, when he
broke Adam Gilchrist's record of 172 for the highest
score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs and broke many world
and India record. And now he is the highest scored
Wicket Keeper in ODIs.
He was man of the series in Sri Lanka's ODI Tour
of India in November 2005 as well.
